I survived the colonoscopy AND endoscopy (sheesh) and now I know that I am healthy and most likely I DO NOT have Celiac Sprue. My doctor took a biopsy and is double-checking for this under a microscope but he assured me that I’m o.k. So this is good news! I can eat all the yummy gluten and wheat that I want. Here’s a run-down of my experience so that if anybody is going through this procedure, they know what to expect:
*The WORST part was the PREP for the procedure as opposed to the procedure itself (which I was asleep for). Basically, once your done prepping for the exam, the worst is over.
*If you weigh less than 100 lbs., only take ONE Ducolax tablet. Wow, that was a painful experience.
*Afterwards, you feel cleansed and drugged and actually better than when you went in there. I lost 5 pounds after this ordeal.
*My throat hurt a little bit after the endoscopy so I ate lots of popsicles.
*When drinking the medicine liquid, choose the orange flavor packet. It actually tasted o.k. And make sure to chill the concoction a little bit before drinking it. It tasted better cold.
*In general, the emptier your stomach, the easier it is. So if you can go without eating for a little while, it’s less trips to the…um…you know.
All in all, the whole thing was not as bad as my imagination was making it out to be.
