I’ve suspected that I have Celiac disease (the whole “can’t eat gluten and wheat thing”) but I haven’t been through all of the rounds of testing yet. I went without eating gluten for one year but then I couldn’t take it anymore and went back to eating it again. I think I felt better that year but I’m not 100% sure if it had anything to do with not eating wheat and gluten. I got a blood test and it came out negative for Celiac sprue, but my gastroentologist said the only sure way to know is to get a….wait for it…a COLONOSCOPY. Yep. So of course when he said that, I kind of freaked out and ran out of his office and said something like, “Never!! No light and scopic tubes will ever go in that way!!”
But now, in the wake of some health issues that I’ve been having, I’ve changed my mind. The date is set. June 20th. The doctor sent me a bunch of complicated instructions too. Oh, and I’ll have to fast for a whole day before the “procedure.” Ugh. At least after all of this, there will be no question in my mind as to whether I have Celiac disease or not. Close the book on all of that. If I do have Celiac sprue, I’ll have to go back to spending more on groceries, eating out less, and generally living a very challenging food life. *sigh* We’ll see…I’ll keep you posted.

You might check out enterolab.com. They can do a test to find out if you are gluten sensitive or not without the GI procedure. FYI.

Eeeks. I had an endoscopy for my Celiac test (which I do have). It went down the throat and they put me under for it.

Oh no Tara! Don’t worry-my mom says only the drink is gross and then the test is easy because they put you to sleep.
You’ll be so glad you were tested.
